Inspired by Italo Calvino’s book Invisible Cities, Memories of The Distant Future delves into the fluidity of memory and the transformative nature of perception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Utilizing LIDAR-scanned subjects from the author’s personal archive, generative AI is employed to reimagine these scans, infusing them with fragments of imaginary Venetian architecture and other elements akin to Invisible Cities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fusion not only mirrors the ever-evolving nature of our memories but also underscores the impact of AI on our cognitive processes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just as Marco Polo’s cities morph and evolve in the mind’s eye, our memories, too, are not static; they are living entities, constantly reshaped by time, experience, and now, by the algorithms that increasingly mediate our reality. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The piece serves as a meditation on the malleability of memory in the digital age, where the boundaries between the real, the remembered, and the AI-generated begin to blur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jur\u0123is Peters <\/strong>is a new media artist currently based in Riga, Latvia. He is mainly interested in visual research on the impact of various phenomena created by new technologies and their consequences in society. And as such, one of the main focuses of his work is artificial intelligence (AI), both as a medium and as a conceptual field of research. He holds a MA degree in Audiovisual Arts from Art Academy of Latvia and MSc degree in Cybersecurity from University of Birmingham, UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
